I sized these according to their chart and couldn't even get one of the gloves onto my hand, it was so small. I have a pair of BD ski gloves that are a little big, so I was really intentional about choosing the right size according to their measurement chart. When I went to exchange the item for a larger size, I was told that there would be a $14. 18 handling fee to return a $29. 95 item (47% of the original price, not including what I already paid for taxes and shipping). I tried to explain that this was an exchange because of sizing (I need the gloves for an upcoming trip), and I was told I'd need to swallow the handling fee and then order a new pair, incurring further shipping fees and essentially making the total cost of these gloves $62. 80 once all is said and done. I get having a restocking fee on orders of large, expensive equipment, but charging 47% of the original price of the item is robbery. As someone who has lots of BD equipment (skis, cams, clothing, shoes), this makes me rethink purchasing from them in the future.
I’ve tried a few friends other belay gloves, but having the cut made for women’s hands is a huge deal when wanting to accurately feel the rope
Soft and smooth gloves.
After one use the cuff is ripping. Used on the via ferrata in Ouray, Co.
This is my second pair. The first one lasted several years! I use them for scrambling and also belaying. They are warm enough to provide a little comfort and fit great.
I’ve been using the Black Diamond Women’s Crag Gloves for a few months now, mostly for belaying and via ferrata, and they’ve held up really well. They’re super lightweight and breathable, perfect for hot days when you still want hand protection without your hands getting sweaty or gross.
I tried several different pairs of these and each fit poorly. The fingers, especially the index and middle fingers, are much smaller than the hand part of the gloves. I couldn't get a refund so I kept them and wear on occasion, but they're fairly uncomfortable.
They seem very well made but really are small. I got size medium (always wear small) and hopefully they will stretch. Otherwise exactly what I wanted — ropes gloves with more dexterity than thicker full leather ones.
WOW these are fantastic for small hands! I wanted them because I wanted something that had some grip, but wasn't bulky . . . . But fit well it's very very hard for me with my short small fingers and small hands to find gloves just to wear generally in winter. These fit perfectly! They are snug, I ordered small, but I know they will stretch to be a bit more comfortable. Very happy with these.
Smaller than I’d hoped but quality is good
When ascending into rocky terrain my hands stay well gripped to the rocks. No more abrasions, or microabrasions to hands
Love these gloves. Had a pair for years and after some intense rescue rigging practice, finally wore some holes in them. So glad to have a new pair of these trusty gloves for the next several years!
I was surprised how small the medium size was and I took them to a store to try the large but they were out of stock. I will now will send back and see if women's large is large enough
The spacing for the fingers are mighty tight compared to same sizing in other BD glove products. And the stitching over the knuckles significantly reduces fabric stretch. I’d steer people to a different glove. BD generally rocks it - but not this model.
Why do these run so dang small? Not even close on sizing. Bumm deal.
Comfortable, 3 stars as they fit small. Size up 1. The women's small is very snug, so went up to a women's medium.
Surprisingly I use these for sailing regularly. They're perfect, even when damp or wet. Have had no issues!
I’m on my second pair of the Crag Gloves after wearing my first to the point of absolute shredding (which took a few years). I rather sacrifice my skin to the rock than the rope so the Crag Gloves are an absolute must for me. Comfortable and breathable - they do start off a little tight but break in nicely. I might recommend sizing up if this is a concern. The measurements dictated I should order a Medium and for the first couple of uses they were tight enough to be uncomfortable and required a break in period. I might also recommend considering the men’s version if you want a little more space. Like I mentioned, these lasted me a few years climbing ropes 3-4 days a week and absolutely save my skin, making me a better belay.
The quality seems great, but the gloves are much too small. Consider sizing up.
I can’t use these at all but it’s not worth trying to do a return. But these gloves are too small and I even ordered a size up based on other reviews saying they were small. However I should have ordered two sizes bigger.
They are my fave. Never let me down
Very tight in the fingers. I am hoping they will stretch out. Great gloves for belaying.
Great pair of gloves but could be more durable! I work at a zipline course in the summer and I definitely have had my fair share of gloves. These are by far on the top of my list. These are breathable for those hot summer days but also thick enough to give me that extra warmth for those cold/dewy mornings. I would definitely size down if you are planning on using these gloves daily. They stretch and form to your hand!
This seems like a really nice glove and have the texture I want! I measured length of longest finger and circumference several times, chose the larger measurement, and double checked sizing chart but the gloves that I ordered (women's M) are too short and aren't cut down enough in the slot between thumb and first finger. I will be returning and ordering a men's M or women's L, which both seem to be the same dimensions in inches.
There are a staple for me, my fourth pair now. Love them.
Perfect gloves for indoor or outdoor belays. I like the full glove for colder days, but the lightweight gloves give me more freedom of movement. Would recommend to anyone looking for a little more protection while giving a safe belay.
Love these gloves and feel naked without them. A little snug at first but they always break in perfectly.
The gloves are warm and durable when scrambling on rock, but a bit stiff and will take some time to be broken in. Love the colors!
Love these gloves. They do run small so if you want some room in them go a size up! Mine are tight but I expected that and didn't want them too roomy.
Love these, especially when you're working with dirty ropes! Help you stay dry on the crag!
Hard finding gloves as a woman with smaller hands. Got a size small and they are snug to get one but once they are on they feel great.
By the size chart, I am exactly in the middle of the range for women's small. Based on reading reviews, I ordered the mediums. They are still too small. The fingers are too short and narrow. I can manage to get them on, but they're uncomfortably tight and trying to move my fingers is a workout on its own. I like the materials, but there's no way I can wear these.
These gloves changed everything! They fit great, I can still use my hands and fingers. These gloves gave me confidence in repelling.
When first bought (before using them for tree climbing) they seemed a bit snug for me, but once I got some sweat and tree sap on them they fit really well & stretched a little bit. According to their size chart, you should go off of whichever measurement is higher between the length of your palm+fingers and the palm girth around the knuckles of your dominant hand. Mine is about 7. 5in which should be medium, but the medium originally felt like the fingers were too short/tight. They did stretch out with a few climbs though and now feel perfect!! I had previously used a pair of rubber garden gloves when I was getting certified, and the ropes get so hot while rappelling that they melted right through! I ascended and rappelled quite a few times with a Blake’s hitch (~60ft) this week and these gloves were PERFECT, I didn’t feel any heat or friction from the ropes. They feel super durable, supple, and protective once broken in with a few climbs/sweat. I really appreciate the soft piece of fabric on the outside of the thumb/wrist for itching my face or wiping my nose on it. Not sure if they intended for that but it’s great.
I checked the size chart and it doesn’t fit at all. They are so small I can’t barely feel my fingers. The elastic band is already broken. :(
I have been trying to find a set of gloves that allow me to feel everything. Open a carabiner, use gear while still having the integrity of my fingers to still feel everything. These gloves are just that. I bought the XS and they fit perfectly. A little tight to start but with a few wears they mold to my hands and fingers. These gloves are perfect.
I significantly outweigh my girlfriend so we picked up a pair of these to keep her warm on chilly morning starts and to protect her hands while belaying me. They've held up for for two seasons. The wine coloured ones looks sharp in person.
Runs small
I purchased these in a Medium for my daughter and they are so small that neither of us can get them on without any force. They look great and she was very disappointed. I am 5'5 and small framed. I would imagine that a Large or XL would fit better or perhaps a small mens. My son purchased the Mens small and they fit fine. He is also petite.
Same Crag gloves as I had before but now they actually fit. I will say I wore a S in the normal Crag gloves and the S in Women's is a little snugger than I would like. I wish I had gotten a M but that's on me. Great gloves!
