With enough comfort to climb WI5, enough warmth to belay and enough dexterity to tie knots in cold temps, the Black Diamond Punisher is our go-to glove for long days, hard climbing and variable conditions. With 100-gram PrimaLoft Gold insulation on the back of the hand and 190-gram fixed fleece lining, the Punisher is our midweight winter climbing glove. The TPU knuckle patch protects against wear and an ice tool specific, pre-curved fit provides a secure grip. Our innovative "seamless pinky" construction, where we've removed the seam on the pommel side of the pinky, increases the level of comfort when hanging on your tool. A waterproof BD.dry™ insert protects against wet ice while the leather palm patch and suede nose wipe add grip and comfort. The Punisher's Pertex Shield rip-stop shell is durable while the 4-way stretch shell at the fingers make for a dexterous, supple feel while climbing.

Very comfortable and warm. The pre-curved design really helps you hold the ice axe naturally. Please add wrist leashes.

    Like them.

  3. Kyle M. · June 18, 2026

These gloves are great for keeping my hands warm with the dexterity for using an ice axe and handling knots during glacier travel. Highly recommend

  5. August A. · March 9, 2026

Very happy with these gloves. They have a nice natural curve that makes gripping tools, poles, or rope easy. Warm enough for active pursuits.

I have flown a small black helicopter with no doors for the last 15 years and I've been in search of winter gloves from the beginning. I cannot believe it's taken so long to find these punisher gloves. They are perfect! They keep my hands warm and give me just enough dexterity to feel the flight control buttons and work the aircraft systems. Who knew all I have to do was look at the ice climbing world. Hopefully the word gets out because these are amazing gloves.

Love the pre bent fingertips, a great amount of insulation for a cold day without sacrificing feel, grip, or causing early pump!

  8. Shawn A. · December 26, 2025

These gloves are fantastic. The dexterity you get with these while staying very warm and dry is incredible. They are also extremely durable. I highly recommend.

As a guide, I spend countless hours out in the cold, teaching ice climbing courses and leading ascents in tough alpine conditions. For years, one of my biggest challenges was keeping my hands warm and functional during long days on the ice. When temperatures dropped to around –15 to –20°C (5 to –4°F), my fingers would go numb, making even the simplest tasks—placing screws, tying knots, or adjusting gear—a real struggle. That changed when I discovered the Black Diamond gloves specifically designed for ice climbing. These gloves strike an impressive balance between warmth, dexterity, and waterproofing—a combination that’s often hard to find. The insulation provides excellent warmth without bulk, so I can handle tools and carabiners with precision. The waterproof membrane keeps my hands dry even after hours of contact with wet ice, and the ergonomic fit allows for excellent dexterity, which is crucial for safety and efficiency on the wall. After months of guiding and teaching in harsh winter conditions, these gloves have become an essential part of my gear. They’ve proven durable, reliable, and—most importantly—kept my fingers from freezing even in brutal cold. If you’re serious about ice climbing or guiding in subzero conditions, these gloves are absolutely worth it.

Good warmth and dexterity. I've only used them for drytooling thus far, they have great dexterity for the bulk. I'm excited to use them for ice this season

  12. Michael V. · February 24, 2025

I have used the gloves for snowshoeing in temperature ranges from 5 to 15 degrees and my hands were warm throughout. The snug wrist does I believe lead to a bit of moisture buildup but they dry quickly. Better mobility than the mittens and no loss of comfort.

  13. Jeff R. · February 16, 2025

Great gloves. Warm and the fit is great.

  14. Aaron J. · January 20, 2025

Getting reps with these gloves are a pleasure. Fit perfectly out of the box and after several hard days on the axes they are working out well. Great in temp range of 20 + degrees. I look forward to wearing them during a Feb trip Thanks

Second pair of these for ice climbing, and they work great. First pair wore out due to a lot of use, for everything from ice climbing to walking my dog.

  16. Vince S. · October 9, 2024

So far these gloves have been great for general use. They have been warm in -5 C or so and I believe they could handle colder. They have been durable through rough use. The large wrist wrap secures them well. I would buy another pair in future.

I haven't used these on ice yet, but have tried on a few different options, and these feel by far the best. They seem very well put together, aren't constrictive but also don't have too much extra material. The palms are reinforced at the right spots and seem to be very well put together. I have high hopes.

  18. Greg A. · January 29, 2024

Excellent they pack out like ski boots. So I have learnt to purchase this glove one size down for ice climbing.

  19. Toby H. · January 18, 2024

Black Diamond has always been my go-to for long-lasting ice gloves. My new Punishers are a thoughtfully designed glove with the perfect balance of warmth, dexterity, and capability. Articulated fingers, extra leather where it counts, and a suede nose-wiper pad that is dreamy soft make me all giddy when it's my turn to lead. Well done, BD!

  20. Jared M. · November 12, 2023

Quick break in. I'm comfortable down to 15°f in these

  21. Tim C. · October 6, 2023

  22. Justin E. · May 15, 2023

They perform great under abuse and tough conditions— got them for ice climbing and they are designed to grip tools well, with tough palms and a comfortable ergonomic design. Nice straps keep them snug. No need for liners.

I bought these for ski touring and rope work as well as using with axes. They work very well and have a good shape of the hand. I did 5 transitions on the split-board and my hands didn't get cold, also without the need to remove them to change my bindings. I wIll probably buy a second pair.

  25. Jason W. · February 13, 2023

Bought them for an upcoming trip to hyalite canyon, so as of this review they have not been field tested. However, the look, fit, and construction all appear to be top notch.

  26. Lindsay H. · February 7, 2023

Good gloves are easily the toughest thing for me to find. My hands inevitably always end up wet and cold. Was pleasantly surprised to take these out ice climbing in Canada and my hands were warm and dry the entire time. Was easy to work with gear, tie knots. Never had a need to take them off to gain function/dexterity of my hands. Super happy!

  27. Danny K. · January 8, 2023

They are warm and fits great. I love black diamond gear cause you can trust it

  28. Alan H. · January 4, 2023

These gloves are perfect for Ice Climbing. They are just the right amount of warmth without sacrificing dexterity. They do a great job of keeping water out. I submerged them in water and my hands stayed dry.

  29. Elaina M. · January 4, 2023

I bought these gloves for my boyfriend for ice climbing and he loves them. Without having to sacrifice warmth he was able to do everything he needed with ropes, screws, tools, ect. The thumb and pinky finger were a tiny bit long. Would recommend using the hand outline to size for gloves rather than just measuring

  30. Nico H. · January 4, 2023

Warm and good grip. Only used a few times so far

  31. Tara J. · December 28, 2022

    Flexible fingers for dexterity

  32. Stephanie O. · December 17, 2022

Ice climbing had to size up

  33. Hongtaek K. · December 16, 2022

    but to large

  34. Maddie C. · December 9, 2022

These are great ice climbing gloves - I have a smaller hand and the smalls fit great. Good for taking out ice screws and getting a good grip on the axe.

  35. Jonathan T. · December 8, 2022

I struggle with finding gloves that fit my finger length. The size I got fit me so well! No excess material in the fingertips. Allowed me to tie knots and clip without fingertips getting caught.

  36. Martin B. · December 6, 2022

I have been using punisher gloves since its first version. I like that all padding is gone. It makes the glove more comfortable and it is increasing dexterity on mixed ground. I find them warm enough to climb in frigid conditions. (Quebec cold).

  37. Anthony S. · December 5, 2022

    Thumbs up

  38. Nathan M. · November 11, 2022

These are my go to gloves for any winter activity. Enough dexterity to work frozen zippers and warm enough for anything above 0F. From instructing to alpine adventures, this is the best glove I’ve used.

  39. Tony K. · March 3, 2022

I use them ice climbing in the white mountains during a cold snap. Winds were in the 30 to 40 mph range with air temperatures -15 F. My hands were warm enough that they were never a problem.

  40. Samuel S. · August 30, 2021

These comfortable and dexterous gloves when keep you warm on the coldest of days while still giving you excellent mobility. Definitely my go to gloves for leading hard ice.
