Nice headlamp for ultra trail
I was a little hesitant at first, spending this kind of money… but like any BD product this thing is bomb proof. It has a ton of features and the controls are user friendly and intuitive. The last headlamp I’ll probably ever buy. You guys killed it again!
I got this headlamp to run my first 10O mile race! I haven’t ran all night with it yet, but the times I have used it in the dark, the light was bright. Very easy to switch out the battery on the fly as well. I bought an extra battery to swap it out if needed in the middle of the night. I also live the counterbalance of the light, battery in back and light in front. When I have used lights that have everything on your forehead, I notice bouncing of the light. There is no bouncing or moving. this headlamp.
So far so good after a couple months of frequent usage. I find myself grabbing this one instead of my other branded headlamps to its weight and comfortability. I find this one to be a great all around tool and would not change my purchase.

Lightweight and a good fit. Would recommend. A little difficult to use with gloves - but that is the same for all headlamps of this style.
This is a head spotlight more than a head lamp. Very powerful, if you need the ability to see 40yards down the trail or spot thing 100 feet up a tree. Very compact and I really like the rear light for biking during the night. I would like to see belt or pocket battery, see as with cold weather you need that heated element of a pocket to keep batteries at peak performance.

Been using this headlamp in the Great Northwoods of Upper Wisconsin for night snowshoeing adventures. This lamp is fantastic. Great light design. Battery changes on the go with ease. Love the light adjustment, colors and intensity. The quick high power adjustment feature is awesome.
I bought this a couple weeks ago and i seriously have used it several time each week since. very clutch and the quality is unmatched.
This very bright headlamp has a long lasting interchangeable rechargeable battery that so far has been quite useful!
The battery life and brightness of this thing means I can do whatever I want even after the sun sets without worry of running out of juice. No battery anxiety. Just miles after dark.

The Distance 1500 is my new favorite headlamp for an Ultra. It's by far the most comfortable out of any of the headlamps I've used. It stays put, doesn't bounce, and points exactly where I want it to. The controls are intuitive, and the battery life is great.
Works well for all my night runs, rides and dog walks. I’m impressed with the fit, especially the overhead fasteners and find the controls (especially the tap for max brightness) intuitive. While on the pricier side, this is often used as my primary light source and offers me so much peace of mind in technical terrain.

I most recently used the Black Diamond Distance 1500 during the Bighorn 100 Mile Trail Race, and it absolutely delivered. Through rugged, technical terrain and a full night of running, the headlamp performed flawlessly. The variable beam angles and adjustable brightness settings made navigating in the dark feel effortless; running through the night was like a dream (like that?). The PowerTap boost came in especially handy for quick terrain checks or spotting distant trail markers, and the beam stayed strong and consistent all night long. I’m not sure how the weight compares to other headlamps in its class, but honestly, I often forgot it was even on my head. The light was secure and bounce-free, even on steep descents and uneven trails. The Distance 1500 is a serious piece of gear for serious nighttime efforts, and it has definitely earned a permanent spot in my ultra kit. Another top-notch product from Black Diamond!
I’ve used the Distance 1500 on several early morning runs, and it’s been excellent. The beam is strong, with great visibility on trails and roads, and the balanced design makes it comfortable even on longer outings. One of my favorite features is how easy it is to swap the battery on the fly — no fumbling or frustration, even in the dark. I also really appreciate the rear red blinking light, especially for added visibility on road sections. Overall, it’s a well-designed, dependable headlamp that’s quickly become a go-to in my running gear.
Haven't had this long but it appears to be well made. The battery switch is very easy (I bought an extra one) and the balance on a helmet feels good.
Perfect solution, we bring our with every hike and it's great around the house too. Learned the hard way better to have a good light and extra battery in my youth after a long night hiking in the dark.
Used this on a multi week road trip with multiple nights camping in the dessert. Super bright and lasts forever with the attached battery. Took a bit to get used to the buttons and settings but eventually figured it out.
This headlamp is amazing. Great for hiking and jogging, especially in low light and the red light behind you is a bonus.
Having used many headlamps over the years—including the original Black Diamond Icon and all its upgrades—I can confidently say the Black Diamond Distant Headlamp stands out as a top-tier option. It’s brighter and more versatile than most, with adjustable lighting modes and easy dimming to conserve battery life. The rugged, weatherproof design feels well-made, and I’m hoping the headband holds up better than previous models, where the straps failed too quickly. It’s definitely on the expensive side, and the extra battery I purchased wasn’t cheap either. However, since I use a headlamp frequently, having a spare battery allows me to swap them out without downtime. If you need a high-performance headlamp and are willing to pay a premium for brightness, durability, and versatility, this one is worth considering.

I was hesitant to move from alkaline to rechargeable headlamp. This light with the extra battery gives me confidence in my personal adventures and search and rescue missions. Fits great and the variety of light make for a versatile tool.

Purchased for SAR work in my area. I carry a spare battery and have never needed it during a single mission. Super bright when needed and great battery length.

I purchased this light and was amazed at the light distance this unit pushes out and I can’t say anything bad but the standard complaint that wish the light weighed nothing and the battery never needed charging but reality dictates otherwise and the light out performed my expectations. The only problem I had with it was my battery pack fell off during a hike and I assumed the battery died so I switched to my handheld light and once back at my vehicle I discovered the battery had fallen off at some point. After several failed attempts to locate the battery and inspection of my headlamp for damage I contacted black diamond and showed them my REI receipt and they promptly replaced it free of charge. I am now a black diamond customer for life if they stay this course .
I used this headlamp for a Rim 2 Rim, night crossing of Grand Canyon and it performed extremely well. I used it on its 800 lumen setting the entire time which allowed me to move faster than I would have with a regular headlamp. The 1500 lumen bump for ten seconds was also great for route finding. I had purchased this over legitimate SAR headlamps that were brighter because I felt it was the best performance to weight ratio and its ease of changing batteries on the move, which I did. I really appreciated that it went into power saving mode when the battery was low, that's how I knew it was time to change batteries. Works great for its intended purpose, 10 out of 10.
This is an awesome headlamp that’s bright as hell and will get though through everything
I have been using this light daily since it arrived. Is is amazing how much light it produces. I love the wide angle of the light so less of the tunnel vision of some other lights. There are many options for setting lighting levels, color of light. The instructions are easy to understand. It will take a bit for me to internalize them, but the major settings I use most of the time are readily available. The headband is very comfortable and fits solidly on my big head. I like the balance of the low-profile battery pack on my back of my head with the low profile lighting on the front. The interchangeable battery packs is a neat feature. I can see they can swap out very easily compared to fumbling with sorting batteries. Like all other headlamps I have used, the small buttons will be a challenge with gloves, but haven't had to try that yet. I think once I have it on, I won't be messing with it, so I expect this to be a minor problem. Overall, a great headlamp that provides amazing performance in a lightweight comfortable package.

Incredible headlamp! Signed up for my 100 mile ultra and did not want to worry about my lighting through the night. This was very comfortable and I had plenty of light!
I got this headlamp for SAR to use on the long searches and pack-outs at night. So far, this headlamp has performed well but there are a couple of things that I would prefer were changed. The biggest thing is that whenever you turn the white light on, it comes on in the same default setting, instead of the last setting you had it on. When I customize the settings for a specific purpose, I would like it to come back on on the same setting when I turn it back on. One example is when I need some real distance illumination, I flip it on to the spot light and maybe adjust the brightness. I then need to turn it off to talk to team mates to coordinate or read a map. When I turn it back on, it comes on in the default flood setting and I need to adjust everything again. Overall the flood setting is great for navigating trails.
Best rechargeable head lamp. Rugged, non fussy, reasonable burn time while awaiting sunrise. Replacing battery with big gloves can be done without risking frostbite.
Will be my go to headlamp when I need lots of light. It is adjustable and can produce many color options as well. On the heavy side but has a comfortable strap.
I’ve had so many flash lights and head lamps over the years, I thought for a long time about making the upgrade to a quality headlamp and this one has not disappointed yet! When you want it to be bright it’s BRIGHT but an amazing feature is the auto dim, you set it where you like it for what you’re doing, but then you heard a bump? Or your significant other is trying to get your attention across the camp, you just tap what I call the “go button” and it’s 100% white light, for the perfect amount of time then it auto dims back to where you had it! Amazing… I often forget my cheaper headlamps are on a high setting and drain them! Color options are amazing, it has red and green like we all expect BUT let me tell you about BLUE! This is also the first headlamp I’ve had with a blue option and I LOVE it, I have several pieces of gear with neon paracord attached, or I have a neon green glow in the dark paracord dog leash and with blue everything is ultra violet! I can see my dogs leash on the trail like a black light reactive shirt at a rave lol! I’m very happy with this purchase and honestly wondering why I waited so long!
